crooner Marc Anthony plays TD Waterhouse Centre
by: cece kegg
Orlando --
On July 25th, the 102nd anniversary to the day of the American invasion of Puerto
Rico, Marc Anthony returned the favor
at the TD Waterhouse Centre. Anthony sang to the mostly Puerto Rican audience
with style and excitement. "I am really pleasantly surprised",
said the pint sized Latin heartthrob. It was a first class nugget of
entertainment spectacle.
The charismatic singer mixed older material with new songs, hot salsa numbers
with sultry ballads and even an outstanding version of his favorite song growing
up, the Eagles; "Hotel California".
His
band was first class all the way. Anthony recruited some of the best musicians
south of the border. The US border that is. A stage filled silk-like strings and
a soulful rhythm section complemented this singer's own compositions.
A very relaxed Anthony sang, danced and chatted with fans. The Puerto Rican flags
were waving constantly. He draped himself with one that found it's way to the
stage. He was given plenty of flowers as well. Red roses were the norm during
the show. It was as if, he was giving a performance to a small group of close
friends. The
mostly female crowd (10 to 1) felt very intimate with him as they screamed, cheered
and cried for the almost two hour show. He sang all his Spanish hits as well as
songs from his new English album. He really showed why he is the current king
of salsa. The
crowd only had a brief moment to rest from this high energy and intense performance.
The moment came when he left he stage for a brief moment before he came back to
do his one and only encore, I need to know.
Oh yeah, this was the extended, let's break the party till the cops get here 12
minute version of the breakthrough international hit. |
