Voo
Doo
in the Bayou
Kentucky native Holly Peters has an interesting way of looking at things. Since recently relocating to the "Big Easy", things have not truly shaped up to conform with the city's moniker. Her paintings show fantastic scenes of pain and agony of a world gone array. The city known for voo doo and the occult have given this young talented artist a quick shot of "Naw'lings" heritage. The rich use of el greco-esque chiaroscuro makes her work stand out and take notice. Themes of death and despair are very common for this tattooed beauty. Holly is as talented as she is unusual. She lets the subject matter affect her emotionally as well as physically. She gets down to the metaphysical level of consciousness. It's like her body is an instrument and she responds to the pulses of the hidden muse in her.
Unusual materials are usually found on her pieces of art. Old frames, pieces of wood, plastic, metal and anything she can get her hands on, she uses to get point across. Holly simply makes beauty out of things discarded and neglected by our society. The finalized works are beating pulse exhaling a breath of elegance and while keeping at bay a great sense of irony. Miss Peters have shown her work at several galleries in the Crescent City and also at the Dixie Taverne on the corner of Jefferson Davis and Canal Street. Owners Maribel and Maurice will take care of all of your beverage and entertainment needs.
