| Revelations
by: herbie martin
The
year 2000 marks a new era, a spring time for the body as well as the soul. For
Eric Needle, this is a time to finally put
all of that together. Expressing
himself with paint and canvas while fusing the visual styles and techniques of
such master painters as Klimpt, Chagal, Monet, Dali
and Herring, Needle captures a moment
in within his imagination for you, to put it in time. His story is as
powerful and current as today itself. In the information age we live in, it is
at times hard to take a moment and remember on what is really important about
our lives and the world we live in. Revelations
is a lifelong study about the meaning of life through time and knowledge. The
pieces are universal in theme and personal to each individual. It's a Revelation!
Eric
explains that;"Society is so overwhelmed with communication. A din of information,
hype, media, frenzy; our eyes are open, but we cannot see. For a moment I was
able to focus on life... The creation."
Needle's work is filled with a palate of hope. It reveals without
excuses, a fantastic voyage of imagery only found within the logic of divine dreams.
You
can check alot more of his work at his Eric's own website.
Who
is Eric Needle?
I am someone given the gift of sight. Most of us can't see.
Why
Revelations?
The word refers to something hidden that has been revealed. I think
the wonder of life is like that. Every day we ignore it a little more
to the point where our child-like fascination with the world around
us is beaten into submission by the alarm clock, the daily commute and
a workday busily attended to in a building powered by flourescent lights.
Remember
being a kid and seeing a caterpillar crawl up a birch leaf? The
wooly hairs on his back poking in every direction, thinking that she
would build a cocoon and turn int o a butterfly. I try to still see
things as miraculous... or see the miracles all around me everyday.
Describe
your technique.
I just paint and try not to think too hard.
What
is art to you?
Art is something more than a picture over a sofa. It's how some of us
express, communicate and try and come to grips with life.
If
you could have just one wish; what could it be?
That everyone would wake up. How much TV do you watch? What if everyone
spent all that time doing something like gardening... wouldn't our world
look different?
If
you could meet anyone living or dead; who would that be and why?
I'm trying to think of something clever, but the only one I'd want to
see is Christ. Everyone else I admire would probably disappoint
me if given the chance to meet.
If
you had to live in one room for your entire life, what would it look
like?
I spend most of my life in my office, and it's cluttered. PCs, hardware,
toys, books.
What
is your most important goal in life?
To not be mediocre. If you're really bad at something and didnt know
it, that would be a tragedy.
Who
is the Blue Earth Society?
Blue Earth Society is a group of
artists who think art can change the world.
Who
have been some of your main influences as an artist and as a person?
I have a 6 year old and a two year old son. They do more to inspire
me than any dead artist.
When
did you realized that art was your way of life?
I've always tried to be unique. I think art or those sensitive to it
are a little more awake than the rest.
Where
do you see yourself 10 years from now?
I don't have a clue. :) ... and like it that way.
